A suspended ceiling with LED lighting is an extremely effective and very fashionable solution. It can be found both in exclusive offices and in our private apartments. It will fit perfectly into almost any interior, and the final visual effect of such a ceiling will depend on the type of lighting that we install in it.
What are the advantages of a lowered ceiling and where will it work best? What types of lighting can we use in a suspended ceiling? Be sure to check it out!
What is a suspended ceiling and what are its advantages?
A suspended ceiling is a lightweight structure that is placed below the ceiling. It can be installed in the middle of the ceiling or around the living room. It is most often made of G-K boards or cassettes.
It primarily serves decorative functions. This finish allows us to hide various types of irregularities, electrical installations or air conditioning, and even curtain rods. Illuminated, long curtains that "come out of the ceiling" will also look very tasteful. Moreover, the use of a lowered ceiling gives us the opportunity to create three-dimensional decorative forms with backlighting and creates many other architectural possibilities.
Suspended ceilings are easy to install, and you don't need to use plaster or perform very involved work to obtain a perfectly smooth surface.
This solution will also work when you want to improve the acoustics of the interior. It will allow you to muffle sounds coming from neighbors' apartments. We can also heat lower rooms much easier and faster. If we decide to additionally insulate the space between the actual ceiling and the lowered one, we will save on heating bills.
We can also lower the ceiling to model the room and optically divide the open space. This is a great idea, for example, when we have a kitchen connected to the living room or dining room. A lowered ceiling over part of the open space - together with appropriate lighting - will allow us to gently separate these two zones.
Suspended ceiling lighting - which lamps to choose?
Magnetic track lighting - has been a proverbial hit for 2 years! This is a type of linear lighting that allows us to create individual light compositions. It consists of a track mounted in the ceiling or on the wall and light points that can be set in any configuration. This is a very aesthetic and extremely convenient solution that will allow us to arrange the lamps within the track without the need to break walls and ceilings. It will work well both at home, in an apartment, in an office or in a restaurant. Magnetic lighting will be the best choice, among others, also for those who love to change the arrangement and decor of rooms from time to time. What's more, the safe voltage of 48V allows you to set the light points in any combinations, also on the walls without worrying about the safety of users.
Installing the luminaires within the rails is also no problem. A perfect example is the magnetic Multiline lighting from OXYLED and Multitrack from AQForm. The luminaires designed for these systems have appropriate adapters that connect to the grooves in the rails, which means that no additional tools are needed to mount the light points.
Magnetic rails can be installed in walls, in suspended ceilings made of plasterboard, but also in ceilings as a surface-mounted or suspended system.
As a result, you can achieve stylish and functional interior lighting that will also be easy to adapt to the changing needs of users.
Linear lighting in suspended ceilings
Linear lighting in suspended ceilings is one of the most fashionable solutions that will work in any room! We can choose from architectural aluminum profiles, ready-made aluminum lamps with LED strips and modules or plaster lamps from Crismosil. Modern LED light lines allow for uniform lighting along the entire length. They are based on technical aluminum profiles and can function as both main, additional and decorative lighting. What's more, we can mount them not only on ceilings, but also on walls. This is an ideal choice for home interiors such as the kitchen, living room, hallway or bathroom, but also for offices, offices and many other buildings.
LED lighting in the form of long lines looks good on suspended ceilings, it can also subtly separate zones, e.g. the dining area from the kitchen or the bedroom/living room area from the living room in smaller apartments. However, remember that if we are planning to install such lighting and mount a suspended ceiling, it is worth first carefully planning the arrangement of individual elements and taking into account places for profiles and LED strips.
LED spot lighting - ceiling spots, or so-called spots, are a universal way of lighting suspended ceilings. They are among the most commonly used solutions.
Until recently, the most popular were ceiling halogens, but currently the most popular are also spots and various types of LED strips. LED spots are aesthetic and much easier to install. LEDs can illuminate the space in the same way as halogens and do not need separate power supplies. In the case of halogens, we must calculate their total power and match the transformer to them, and the selected bulbs cannot exceed the maximum power.
LED strip - medium-power LED strips and strips are one of the most popular types of suspended ceiling lighting. They perfectly emphasize the shape of the ceiling, but can also be a marker of zones in the living room. Lighting the interior with LED strips will certainly give it character. The advantage of the strips is their versatility. The strips can be easily incorporated into many different styles and arrangements, and there are also different light colors to choose from. Remember, however, that if our LED strips are to have a practical function, they should be placed in aluminum profiles. Wide profiles are available for sale, which can accommodate several LED strips next to each other. This solution will make the lighting power much greater. LED lighting can also go from the ceiling to the walls.
Flush-mounted LED panels - this type of lighting is most often found in shopping centers or other public places, but there is nothing to prevent them from being installed in a house or apartment. Modern LED lighting in the form of flush-mounted panels is a very aesthetic and practical solution that also provides a lot of light. The panels will work well as the main lighting for the kitchen, bedroom, living room or hallway. Many manufacturers also have panels with motion sensors in their offers.
Surface-mounted pendant lamps - will pendant models also work well in suspended ceilings? If this type of ceiling is not very low, it is worth choosing this type of lamp! However, remember that when installing such products, we must purchase special mounting accessories, including pins adapted to the weight of the lamp, which will ensure our safety and help keep the product in the designated place.
Ceilings - suspended ceilings also look beautiful with ceiling lamps. In smaller interiors, they can act as the main lighting. Suspended ceilings with ceiling lamps will work well in the hallway, bathroom, kitchen, living room or children's room.
Spotlights - these are usually fixtures with one or more light sources. They can have built-in diodes or replaceable bulbs. They are designed for mounting directly in suspended ceilings and can be directed in any direction. This means that we are able to obtain different directions of light incidence.

LED suspended ceiling in the bathroom - what do you need to know?
LED suspended ceilings are chosen not only for living rooms, but also for kitchens and bathrooms. Remember that when choosing bathroom luminaires, you should only choose models that are designed to operate in places with increased humidity.
The IP44 degree of protection and any higher will inform us that the selected bulbs are resistant to water. The most demanding areas in the bathroom are the bathtub and shower area, which is why it is worth using IP65 luminaires there.
Kitchen with suspended ceiling and LED lighting
LED suspended ceilings will also work well in the kitchen. Here, ceilings can be successfully installed in ceilings, eyelets, tubes or hanging lamps that will separate individual zones. When choosing lamps for the kitchen, let's pay attention to their properties and purpose.
First of all, it is important to take into account that kitchen lighting must be safe and practical, and lamps resistant to moisture. Let's choose products that are easy to clean. This will certainly make it easier for us to keep the kitchen clean.
Summary
Installing a suspended ceiling allows us to hide irregularities and discreetly mask electrical installations or air conditioning. A lowered ceiling is also an ideal place to install both decorative and practical room lighting. In this case, we are limited only by our imagination!
What type of lighting to choose for a suspended ceiling? The appropriate LED strip, tapes or eyelets designed for mounting in a lowered ceiling are not the only solutions. Rails, light lines, ceiling lamps, tubes, chandeliers or hanging lamps will also work great. However, you should pay attention to whether the selected models of luminaires can be mounted to suspended ceilings. When deciding on a lowered ceiling in the kitchen or bathroom, we must choose a type of lighting that has an increased IP class.
