Facts and myths about LED technology
While participating in the Light Fair, we had the opportunity to participate in many lectures on LEDs. With this short entry, we want potential clients to say, explain, refine, to end myths, and stick to facts...
LED diodes shine up to 100,000 h.
Myth, currently producers for light sources give up to 30,000 hours, for luminaires with LED light sources up to 60,000 h. The difference is due to the fact that bulbs with traditional handles dissipate heat much less than LED modules used directly in the fittings.
The number of on / off LED sources shortens their lifespan
This is a myth because the LEDs are not sensitive to the number of on / off cycles
A full luminous flux is available after a few minutes
Another myth, unlike energy-saving light bulbs, is full stream almost immediately after switching on
The more LEDs, the more light
Not true, individual LEDs differ from each other, therefore a large number of low efficiency LEDs will give less light intensity than a smaller one, but with better parameters. The main factor determining the light parameters is therefore the type of the diode, and only then the quantity.Limited range of color temperature
The diodes produced at this moment have a temperature range of 2700K to 10000K, so it's hard to write here about the limitation ..
LED's have a low level of color rendering
False, the first sources based on LED technology actually had this problem, however technological progress resulted in the increase of this coefficient. Currently the standard is CRI = 80, which corresponds to traditional fluorescent lamps. In lamps and luminaires of good manufacturers, the standard is CRI = 90, reaching even 93-94, which is close to the ideal.
LED sources are not ecological
This is a false statement because LEDs do not contain mercury or lead
LEDs are susceptible to high temperatures
True, high temperature shortens the life of the LEDs
LED lighting can be used outdoors
True, provided that they are mounted in appropriate fittings, preferably IP54 and more
