Corridor and hall lighting - what lamps in 2021?

A corridor or a hall is very often treated as "neglect", for many people it is not a very important place in an apartment, house or business. Home or business life most often takes place in other rooms, so we often do not pay attention to the lighting of this place, nor do we care about the aesthetics and effectiveness of the selected lighting. In the case of a corridor, it is usually the first room in an apartment or company that the household members or visiting guests see. However, what lighting for the hall we choose can be of enormous importance. It is the main communication route that connects with other rooms, so it is worth taking care of interesting lighting that will match the entire interior and provide the right amount of light for a comfortable use. The lack of natural light requires an individual approach. In today's article, we will try to help you choose whether you have a large hall or the smallest room. We encourage you to familiarize yourself with a few proposals that are not only fashionable, but also practical and aesthetic, providing good lighting and an interesting look.

Light color - which one should I choose for the corridor?

There are no guidelines or standards here that would define what color of light should be used. In practice, this means complete freedom and freedom, but it is worth knowing a few practical tips. Cold lighting over 6000K is used very rarely in homes and offices, the most frequently chosen light colors are warm white 3000K or neutral 4000K. If the interior is open, it is best to use the same color of light in these rooms. In most cases it will be a warm color. Entering the apartment, you will feel a cozy atmosphere that even invites you to enter further. Several different colors of white light in open spaces look inconsistent and inelegant, causing an effect of chaos and imbalance. Please imagine that we have a neutral color in the kitchen, warm in the living room, and cold in the hall, and in all these rooms the light shines simultaneously ... The warm color makes the interior seem more cozy and comfortable, it will work well in combination with warm colors and wood. Neutral color is elegance, emphasizing the natural color of the materials used, it looks good in combination with black, gray, anthracite and white. In interior design, we cannot only rely on what is fashionable at the moment. When choosing the hallway lighting, the size and shape of the rooms, access to a natural light source or the interior arrangement itself play an important role.

How to illuminate a corridor or hall with LED lamps?

There is no single answer to this question, because each interior has a different dimension, style, shape and size. Hall lighting should be a coherent whole. If our small hallway will work in it, even a single luminaire mounted on a surface or built into a suspended ceiling. It can also be a ceiling ceiling, their wide selection allows you to adjust the shape and size to any interior. In addition to plafonds, spot lamps are also often chosen to illuminate the corridor, directing the light beam to the place of interest. For example, by highlighting a large mirror that will visually enlarge the hall. In the case of a narrow, long corridor, it is best to evenly arrange several recessed or surface-mounted luminaires, or to use linear LED lighting along its entire length or popular rail lighting. Such solutions provide illumination of the entire corridor, not only part of the corridor, which is important when there is no access to daylight. Apart from modern house designs, with high corridors and staircases, hanging lamps will not work in such an interior, so such solutions are avoided in these places. They are not practical in passageways and may interfere with free movement, opening wardrobes, carrying equipment, etc. Hanging lamps, for example in the form of a chandelier, can make the room look more luxurious. Although a chandelier in the hall is a dream of many people, it is worth considering in advance whether it will be a functional solution.

Arrangements of the corridor and hall with lamps

Below are a few different lighting concepts that can inspire you to use them at home, they are so flexible that it is very easy to adapt them to your own needs and possibilities. They will also be the basic form of providing light in these places for the coming years. Many solutions will work in the hall. Check what to choose to best illuminate the hall and any communication space in the house and apartment.

1. Track lighting

A very simple and easy to install form of lighting. It is very popular both in new apartments and during renovation. It allows you to create any pattern, but most often in this place it will be a straight line of the desired length for the corridor. The great advantage is the ability to connect several rails, up to the required length, as well as to mount any number of reflectors and their arrangement and orientation to cover the entire communication route with light. Spotlights on rails can be freely configured. In the event of changes in the arrangement of the room, we can change the lighting without the need for costly and burdensome renovations. This is where both single-phase and three-phase rails will work, the multitude of available solutions allows you to choose the right lamps for each project.

2. Oblong linear lamps

A fashionable and popular solution for all interiors, it will also work well in the hallway. Available in many different variants and forms, both in recessed and surface-mounted versions. A great advantage is the wide range of different lengths to choose from, which allows you to adjust them to virtually any interior, and in the case of larger spaces, a group of several similar lamps looks extremely attractive. Well-chosen lighting using linear lamps will be a modern and elegant solution for most interiors. Mixline and Lupinus series lamps will work well in such a room

3. LED profiles to be built into plasterboard ceilings

For 2-3 years it has been one of the basic trends in interior lighting. Profiles recessed into plasterboards can be used both in walls and ceilings and can be used as basic lighting. Designers, when arranging a new apartment or house, very often rely on this type of lighting. Properly selected LED strips allow to obtain the effect of a line of light without the effect of visible dots of different light intensity, also as decorative lighting. Different widths of the aluminum tray and milk shutters allow you to create any form on the wall or ceiling

4. Recessed or surface-mounted ceiling luminaires

Recessed luminaires are still one of the most popular forms of providing light in the hallway. It will work both in small spaces, where it is enough to use 1 light source, and in larger ones, where more luminaires will be required. The wealth of forms, most often in the form of meshes, tubes, squares or cubes, and a wide range of colors, allows you to easily match the luminaire to the interior. They will also effectively replace a pendant lamp in any other room. When arranging the hall, it is worth choosing small fittings for GU10 bulbs and larger ones for AR111 / ES111 bulbs and all fixtures with an integrated LED light source.

5. Wall lamps

One of the less frequently implemented concepts as basic lighting, however, it cannot be written that it is not found at all. Mainly due to the shape of the room, which is the corridor. Most often used above the mirror as lighting in a place where such a mirror is installed in the corridor, especially in houses or apartments, in bright corridors, modern wall lamps can be mounted at short distances from each other. They can act as complementary lighting illuminating a selected part of a wall, a picture, graphics, a chest of drawers, etc. The light beam directed downwards visually enlarges the room, light projected from a certain distance on the wall widens the interior a bit, which may be important in small spaces. Wall lamps are lighting that we find much more often in the arrangement of a house than a flat.

6. Plafonds

Used as often as ceiling luminaires, they will work well in small and larger spaces, both individually and in a group of several lamps arranged along the entire length. The plafonds will perfectly replace a pendant lamp as the main source of light in any room. They are perfect lamps for the hall, they can illuminate the entire interior. A large selection of geometric shapes in various colors will allow you to choose a ceiling suitable for any interior. Larger sizes will be sufficient to illuminate smaller spaces. For lighting long corridors, several smaller plafonds will be better than one large lamp. A ceiling lamp, most often has a compact size, thanks to which it is a combination of elegance and functionality

Summary

When planning lighting in the hall, remember not to be guided only by the economic aspect. It should be remembered that the lighting should be primarily functional and aesthetic so as not to spoil the effect of the entire interior. Well-chosen lamps will allow you to safely use the communication route, they will also facilitate the use of mirrors, hangers, wardrobes, etc. Choose ceiling lamps and combine them with other light sources. Remember that a pendant lamp is not a good solution when it comes to hall lighting or corridor lighting.
